Sawnee Mountain Preserve is a 963-acre passive park operated by Forsyth County Parks and Recreation. The preserve offers 11 miles of hiking trails with scenic overlooks as well as picnic areas, a pavilion, and a visitor center.
In 2022, HW Exhibits was asked to create a master interpretive plan that reimagines the visitor center and trail experience. We delivered a design concept package including renderings, floorplans, interpretive panels, and dynamic interactive experiences including a full-scale oak tree replica. As visitors move through the visitor center, they will learn about trail etiquette, the history of Sawnee Mountain, and the ecosystem at the preserve.
In 2023, we implemented our interpretive plan including large-scale wall graphics, interactive experiences, custom acoustic panels, and large scale scenic work. The new exhibits opened in May of 2024.
